Accessibility

The target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is the version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines the Australian Human Rights Commission currently recommends as a minimum for digital goods and services.

We have not tested against it yet, so we are not claiming it. A conformance claim made before testing is the same failure as a certification badge for a certification nobody holds.

What we can tell you today is where the work stands.

Each barrier will be listed specifically, with what we are doing about it and by when.

This section stays empty until the site has actually been tested, because a list written from guesswork would be worth nothing to the person reading it. An empty section here is an admission, not an omission.

Most accessibility statements stop at the website. Ours should not, because for most people who meet LexiLive, the product is a voice on a phone.

• Speech recognition is not equally good for everyone: It is worse on strong accents, on older voices, on voices affected by illness or a speech condition, and on a poor line. That is a property of the technology, not something careful configuration solves.
• A caller can ask for a person: Asking for a person, or a human, or saying the system is not understanding, transfers the call. A caller who says nothing recognisable is transferred rather than being asked to repeat themselves indefinitely.
• Callers can interrupt: You do not have to wait for the system to finish talking before you speak.
• Nobody is required to talk to it: The opening announcement gives the caller a way to reach the business in writing instead, and that is there for people who cannot use an automated voice service as much as for people who would rather not be recorded.
• What we have not done. We have not tested the voice service with people who use assistive technology, who have a speech or hearing condition, or who speak English as a second language. Until we have, we are describing design intent and not measured performance, and we are saying which is which.

Tell us what happened and where, at [email protected]. Say which page and what you were trying to do.

We answer within one working day. If the fix will take longer than that, we will tell you how long.

If something here is stopping you getting the information you came for, say so and we will send it to you another way while we fix it. That is an undertaking, not a courtesy, and someone here honours it.

WCAG 2.2 is the current World Wide Web Consortium recommendation, published October 2023 and updated December 2024. It is also an international standard, ISO/IEC 40500:2025.

The Australian Human Rights Commission's Guidelines on equal access to digital goods and services, published April 2025, recommend WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the minimum and replace the older World Wide Web Access advisory notes. They are not legally binding, and the Commission can take them into account when it deals with a complaint.

AS EN 301 549:2024 is the Australian Standard for ICT accessibility. It covers more than websites, including ICT with two-way voice, which is the part relevant to section 3.

The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 applies to anyone providing goods, services or facilities in Australia, this website included. There is no Disability Standard made under it for websites, so there is no certificate to hold and nothing to comply with in the tick-box sense. What exists is the general obligation, and a person's right to complain.

We do not claim to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act, because that is a legal conclusion and not ours to declare about ourselves. We have told you the target we are working to, where we are against it, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.
